8. The Boss
ego-vengeance, the passion is lust
by Torre Waag
If you take on the persona of the Boss you will have a sense of being
competent and commanding. Your attention will go to power, domination,
and control. You may strive to be fair and just; however, you may not notice
how big your presence is when you enter a room and how often you intimidate
people. But that is their problem, isn't it? You are the driving force
behind capitalism and conquest, but you are also protective and warm toward
family, close friends, and those who need you. This is an unjust world,
and you are the justice-maker. Up-front, openly angry when offended, for
you, the truth comes out in confrontation, but others may want more diplomacy
and tend to move away. Lust is your passion: wanting and taking are easy
for you, whether for sex, or material objects or power. Your life may be
marked by excess: too much, too loud, too many, or you may be considerate
and fair. You may fit the bad-boy or bad-girl archetype or you may be a
crusader for a just cause. In a dispute or when something goes wrong, the
other person is to blame. On the high side you can be generous and inspiring,
making a powerful social and moral contribution toward a just world. On
the low side you can be vengeful, punitive, and exploitative. Think of
Wall Street capitalists with big cigars, Hell's Angels, and Mafia Dons.
Boss exemplars include Earnest Hemingway, Martin Luther King, Gurdjieff,
Jack Nicholson, Barbara Walters, Fritz Perls, Saddam Hussein, Stalin, and
Zorba the Greek. Occasionally, when you allow yourself to be vulnerable,
you may realize the Divine Truth that everything is good, just, and whole
in the present moment, in the now.
