7. The Epicure
ego-planning, the passion is gluttony
by Torre Waag
If you play the part of an Epicure you will tend to be a happy, enthusiastic
dreamer. You may spend your time making plans, working on them, and striving
for a better world. You are an idealist, but you may lack follow through.
The plans and the early stages of the project are more fun and exciting
than the drugery of making them real. When the work gets tough, you may
discover a new project you have always wanted to do, somewhere else, perhaps
in another country, and move on. After all, isn't life about experiencing
everything? You are a skilled synthesizer, fitting together ideas from
diverse sources. You may be a charmer, an eloquent intellectual. You may
want to be a writer or perhaps even be one. People are attracted to your
enthusiastic energy, but later they may feel let down by you. You have
a sense that you are OK. We are all equal, aren't we? On the high side
you are a renaissance person who has learned to work hard to create your
vision of a new age. On the low side you may be a bit of a charlatan, not
because you intend to deceive others--your intentions are good--but your
fantasies and dreams draw people in, and then, where are you? Think of
Peter Pan, the hippie culture, new age cosmic travelers and the Music Man.
Some examples of your archetype include Ram Dass, Kurt Vonnegut, Rajneesh,
Goldie Hawn, and Joseph Campbell. Every once and a while, when you let
go of your future plans and dreams, you may realize that the Divine Work
is always happening in the now.
