3. The Performer
ego-vanity-go, the passion is deceit
by Torre Waag
If you take on the persona of a Performer you will be ever striving for
success. Failure is not an option. You may have a sense that others admire
you for your achievement. Your self-worth comes through your worldly success.
Most likely you have taken on the values of society: the right job, an
expensive car, a fine home, and an impeccable family. You are the American
advertising image of success. What could be more natural? You are organically
competitive, an enthusiastic leader, the point man or woman on the team.
How do you look? What is your image? With insight you may find you wear
a mask and shift the mask day to day or even moment to moment to look good
in the eyes of those you want to impress. Your passion is deceit--self-deceit--which
is believing you are the image you project. In your striving for efficiency
and achievement you may put aside the softer emotions like sadness, caring
and love. Who has time for these? Even when you come home from work there
is always the garage to clean. On the high side you are an excellent leader,
and you encourage others to join you and succeed. On the low side you may
be ruthless, deceptive, manipulative, and vain, using others for your needs.
Think of corporate businessmen, super-moms, top salesmen, Paul Newman,
Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Werner Erhart, and Anthony Robbins. Every once
in a while when you slow down your striving and take in the whole scene,
you may glimpse Divine Hope, which is the realization that Spirit is present
and at work in all things.
