Winter Rain Storm

All night we watched
the eucalyptus trees bow this way,
then that, nearly exhausted trying to
please the wind.  So many demands!

Living close to land’s edge:
anything but charming.  The wind is
only one
of the ocean's many wild forces.

Now that this winter storm --
scattered limbs and torn leaves --
lodges itself
just outside our door

we can pray for rain in earnest.
Pray always for what has already
happened as the world
is glancing back in your direction.
