Something I noticed the other day as seagulls begged for treats on the beach: their wings in the wind sounded like the leaves in summer wind. The leaves had all fallen, but their SOUND was now "played" by the gulls! The line from The Sound of Music went through my mind: "When the Lord shuts a door, he always opens a window."

noisy, rhythmic cicalas in the hot dry Pine forest - my dogs panting in time - the moment when they suddenly stop - all together!

I get to speak this, my mother-tongue once a year when I go to my homeland.Otherwise I speak, fluently, this second language. I live in a rural area where a dialect is spoken. This means I can never take for granted that what I say will be understood. Even when we are using the same words, I can never be sure the meaning is the same. What a gift, to always consider the power of words, the damage they can do, the healing they can bring. I am less inclined to waste them. What a gift that even if my neighbours might not be able to have a good long natter with me, they always smile and send a greeting.

Deep, soft, rumbling cat purr... those sweet vibrations nurture my soul, ground my animal being and free my joyful spirit. With gratitude for all sentient beings... especially the feline purr-suations.

Love the sound of Tibetan Bowls, of inner peace, of prayer songs on Shabbat by Kotel, of sincere laughter, of my teachers sharing their wisdom, of rice boiling, of my son, of heart beating, of the silence...sounds of my life.

It's snowing. I love the quietness of a town when the snow falls and the soft rustling (? ich meine feines knistern) of the falling snow. Everything is gentle. This is a good day!

I just enjoyed reading many of these people's favorite sounds and how gateful they are to hear them! I am too! I slowly went totally deaf in 2003 but had a cochlear implant that same year and I can hear all of my favorite sounds once again! I do not take hearing for granted ever again! I like all the sounds they mentioned plus even babies crying in restaurants! Makes me smile to just hear that once again! Wind through the trees is nice to hear again and the sounds of sailing out on the water and of the creakings of a wooden boat under sail!! This was truly a miracle for me! Hear, Hear!!

I love the sound of the sea, the song of the nightingale, the flight of an owl, the bleating of a sheep, streaming water, Gregorian music, silence in churches, bells and bowls, the wind in the trees, the flickering of a candle, the falling of snow, the roaring of a lion, the sputtering of fire in a stove, the laughing of a baby, and so much more...

I am grateful to be able to hear. I love the sound of my son's voice, the sounds of: birds, frogs, cats purring, clocks chiming, acorns as they land on the ground, the wind, rain against the window, waves upon the shore, a choir at Christmas, crickets, water tumbling over stones and so much more!

I love the sound of my two year old Grandson, Joshua laughing. Nothing makes me smile more than his cheerful giggle. I love the sound of my new grandbaby, Kayla, 4 months old starting to coo and seeing her smile all the time. I love seeing my pets content and happy knowing how much they are loved.

Bird song outside my window. I can hear them all through the house. The songs are of joy, of communication, of caring for the young ones. Many species. Even the predators, wheeling in the sky above. All have a song. All have worth.

I love the singing of the blackbird most of all. My heart overflows in love and longing for spring to unfold within my heart. I love the crisp sound of feet on snow when it is VERY cold. And the sounds of dry heaps of leaves when I walk through them. The sounds of laughter and happiness at the beach in the summer. Churchbells ringing in Christmas... the memory of my class humming their own melodies, making art.

I love to cup my hands over my ears and then breathe as lengthily and as deeply and slowly as I possibly can. It is the sound of waves gently and peacefully lapping the shore, a universal, timeless, powerful yet soothing sound, so ancient, so primordial, so...om.
