Caring for the Earth

The Earth is our mother. Without her we couldn't survive. And yet we keep mistreating her. To reverse this trend, each one of us can and must do our share. Tell others what you do and let yourself be inspired by what you read about their actions.

I'm re-invigorated to have a "green roof" on our new porch, and to research rain barrels!
- tam, arlington, VA, USA   18 Jun 2008

I value and love water and i know that it is a precious life giving gift. Today i will begin conserving it and being more thankful with every sip, everytime i cleanse my hands, everytime i turn on a faucet, i will thank God for this gift.
- JKL, Norman OK   18 Jun 2008

The quiz was both an eye opener and an inspiration to become more aware of water is an essential gift, yet how lacking is our awareness arround what a precious commodity it is. I make a committment to being more aware of how precious a gift it is .

I was humbled when I did the 'water test.' So, today I will be ever grateful for what water I use and drink. I will light a candle and pray that not only myself, but others will become more aware of how we can conserve our wonderful GIFT OF WATER.

I usually tell my kids to tighten taps but that was for economic reasons. This site has opened my eyes to the fact that I have taking water for granted. I will now be more conscious of how I use it and stop being wasteful for enviromental reasons this time. Thanks Ted Oleari, I will follow your example and put the same sign on our spout. I am sure I will produce better results because my children are aware of the need to take care of the enviroment

We have a sign on our water spout: "God, we thank you for this water as it flows through our hearts, nourishing, blessing and cleansing every cell in our bodies in perfect health, happiness and love. May all living beings be so blessed indeed." Please email me if you want to correspond about the sacredness of water. tedsmailbox@gmail.com

I am lighting a candle today for global stewardship of water.

In an effort to free the water in my area from prescription drugs, the Illinois Studies government class together with the Ecology class at my high school, have begun a program. Basically anyone can now take their unused or expired drugs back to the pharmacies in our area rather than flushing them or throwing them away where they are taken to our landfill just to seep into underground water. The students of these two classes want nothing more than to instill a sense of responsibility to our world, and it is the epitome of the “Think Globally, Act Locally” philosophy (which is my personal favorite). The Pontiac Prescription Drug Disposal Program (P2D2 Program) is open for anyone who would like to take it to their schools or area. For more information a fellow student of mine has set up an website p2d2program.org. Thanks!

I am on a mission to teach children how to honor the earth; to spend time hiking on their urban trails so that they get a first hand look at the condition of our landscapes...and also learn to enjoy the outdoors. So many spend much of their time indoors with electronic gadgets. Lets start encouraging a newfound relationship with the earth...and develop leaders that are good land stewards.

I often give thanks for the fact that I have access to running water. I've stayed with relatives in Jamaica in the countryside who don't. Our shower has been running hot and cold recently and today I washed my hair and complained about this. Coming on this site and doing the water quiz acts as a reminder to me to be grateful that I have water at all. I am always really careful about not wasting anything, including water and will continue to do so in. I will strive to be concious of, and to appreciate all that I have in my life. Thank-you

my partner and i installed an alternative water system that makes use of our 'waste' water for growing plants. we gratefully shifted from the compost toilet (ie, a bucket with sawdust to empty as needed). now the wick isn't working and we're back to the bucket, also using the sink as little as possible to reduce flow to the system. it's a reminder to keep our use down. i told my partner "if it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down" which i learned as a child in dry california.

Please light a candle for the presidential candidates in the United States. The world needs a leader who understands and cares about the environmental problems faced by our world today. The world needs a leader who is not controlled by special interests groups but will guide with an understanding of the impact mistreating the earth has on our existence. Group: Presi

I am grateful that I stumbled on to this site!I have lived in a city in India where i experienced acute scarcity of water. This was 6 years ago. Ever since I have been grateful for every drop of water that i get.I am very careful about not wasting any water.
- UI, India   4 Jan 2008

Right now I suffer from a cold and fever. If there was no clean water for me to drink I would be in trouble. Today, I will give my awareness to every way I use water: drinking, washing the vegetable before cooking, washing my hands, making tea. I am greatfull for the rain we have here for it makes "my world" green.

Australia is in a drought and we realise how precious water is. We are fortunate to have a safe water supply. Still, we import bottled "designer" spring water from Europe and suchlike. The unjust thing is, to get here it has to be shipped past the very countries where mothers have no clean safe drinking water for their children, or for hospitals to give a drink to sick people; places like Africa where some mothers wash their babies in cows' urine because the river water is so unsafe. Our bottles of spring water sails right past them. I will decline to buy imported water and will gratefully use the gift our own supply.

I am extremely grateful today for the rain that is falling from the sky. We have needed this rain for so long and the Good Lord has given us an amazing Christmas present in showering us several times throughout this last week. Thank you, Jesus!
- kar, north carolina   30 Dec 2007

For 24 hours I will try to be deeply aware of every moment that I touch, see or hear liquid or frozen water, and I will try to develop an attitude of gratefulness for the gift of water.
- Stan, Pennsylvania   20 Dec 2007

Living in Israel for 3 decades taught me how precious water is and to conserve it. From Masaru Emoto I learned to bless and thank water at each use. Gratefulness.org is a wonderful site, combining gratitude with caring for our planet!
- SN, the baautiful Pacific Northwest   17 Dec 2007

I will be grateful for the water we have and be a good steward of it.
- Laura G, Texas   15 Dec 2007

This practice opened my heart so much; even sitting now at my computer with a glass of water I look at it differently. I myself could not exist without the water in my body and that which I consume every day... I'm going to try to see all water as blessed now, so when I take in water, I am taking in the blessings of the Divine and the Holy, and I see the water inside of me as the same, blessing my body, mind and spirit. Thank you
- Dominic Roberts, Oneonta, NY   20 Nov 2007

When taking showers, I use that time to acknowledge my gratefulness for all that I have. Water is a conscious commodity, which I am sincerely grateful....however my quiz score faired not so well. I learned new things about it, including to shorten my showers more....and my kids are more knowledgeable to it also. Thanks for this site for all it's info and constant guide.
- jogs, Hanover   16 Nov 2007

This site is a wonderful reminder of how blessed we are to have clean water. It has also reminded me of my responsibility to be a good steward of this precious gift.
- Elaine L, Orlando, FL   13 Nov 2007

I thought it was amazing that so many people die each year because of a lack of access to safe drinking water. I never realized how lucky we are in the United States to have an abundance of safe drinking water. After taking the quiz and learning the facts, I will try to cut back on my water use when possible.
- Kari V, Ohio   29 Oct 2007

Water is a valuable resource that should be taken advantage of. Living in the United States is a privilage and we should take care of our water supply.
