Gift People

This forum is a hall-of-fame for people who are gifts in our lives and fill us with gratitude. Here you have an audience of thousands before whom to praise the grandparent who taught you more than any other teacher; an actor, a singer, a writer who inspired you; or maybe a person whose name you never knew, whom you met only once, and to whom you will be grateful forever. Of course you may also want to comment on the Gift People featured on this site or on other favorite saints and heroes.

My friend Ricky passed away 21 years ago. In June of this year he would be 52. I still can't get it that I can't pick up the phone to call him. On the phone, we'd laugh forever. I still laugh when I think of his love, his gift of style, his passion for dancing, his great laugh and latest joke. I am grateful always for his love.

I am grateful for the many lives...the many moments of clarity...with which I have been graced. The people, the pets, the places, and the situations that have touched my heart and given it the courage to remain open... Whenever I feel like my heart has been broken, I step back and Alas!...it is usually my ego that is suffering not my being...for an open heart cannot be broken.

I am grateful for my cat, tegro. He gives me many opportunities to smile. It is a simple love, but a real highlight in my day.

At this moment going thru this process I am aware of how the people who have "failed" me, have also flayed me, open, to a great love and life force that embraces the failures the way I embrace my son and daughter when there efforts fall short. The turning away that has left me alone, has also left me open to a grief that is a guide now.

I am grateful for the love and support that has come into my life now....a beautiful caring man who is giving me everything my heart has desired... I am grateful for my family and all my friends who have stood by me and with me throughout my life, they have taught me much and shown me what unconditional love is all about. I thank the universe and beyond for guiding me thru life and giving me all that I need.

I am grateful for the students at West Brooklyn Community High School. In the midst of my grief, they bring me out of myself and offer me an opportunity to serve. They bring out the child in me and soothe her pain. What a blessing!!!

I am grateful for the beautiful park I live near. I have wandered through it endlessly, and it has brought me great solace and joy over the years.
