April Newsletter — Apr 22, 2013

Your partnership with us has made possible at last one of our longstanding goals: to create a library of Br. David Steindl-Rast’s talks offered over the course of decades:

We have started gently, with 12 topics ranging from homelessness to healing to Joseph Campbell’s legacy. All in all we have 508 lectures, and we will continue to add to the public archive so that you can plumb the depths of Br. David’s legacy. Thank you for all you have done to make this dream possible!

We will continue to add to the treasure trove of blessings that you sent as well. Our second page of contest entries gives thanks for individuality, continuing community, adversity, compost, and photo albums, to name a few:

You will notice an emphasis on suffering, courage, and light in dark times. After a week of devastating events for people in Boston, Massachusetts and Sichuan Province China, as well as other places around the world, we again consider the vital relationship between grief and gratefulness:

and have updated our site’s grief resource links:

April’s GratefulNews looks at opportunities amidst challenges: how to restore Harlem's Dance Theater, increase empathy, defuse conflict, provide vital medicine, and more:

As a recent Word for the Day quote by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés observed, “Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.” That includes every small and great way in which we care for the Earth:

Thank you for remaining mindful of what steps you can take here and now, this day, to mend the part of the world that is within your reach. In honor of Earth Day, we are offering Annette Cantor’s “Songs of the Earth” CD for your gift of $100 or more. Whether or not you can give at this time, you can listen to a heart-stirring, full-length sample song here:

Kindest regards,
Patricia and Margaret
