English novelist known for her penetrating characterizations and analysis of middle-class morality. Austen’s works include Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), and Emma (1816).

In one of her works entitled simply "Prayer" Austen writes, "Give us a thankful sense of the Blessings in which we live, of the many Comforts of our lot, that we may not deserve to lose them by Discontent or Indifference."
