“Photography is the art of paying attention,” writes Stephen Weiss.  Not only his photographs – but also his entire way of being – reflects this attention.  He has most generously created and donated two black-and-white portraits of Br. David Steindl-Rast – in limited, numbered editions of 12 each – to raise funds in support of our free services at ANG*L.

The narrative portraits measure 17 x 22 inches and feature quotes by Br. David in response to questions by Mr. Weiss.  The prints are signed by Br. David, initialed by the photographer, and include a certificate of authenticity.  Each in its own way – whether serious or light-hearted – captures a facet of Br. David which is truly a gift to behold and contemplate…or to offer to a friend this holiday season. 

With your purchase, you receive a rare narrative photograph of Brother David, and the satisfaction of knowing that the practice of grateful living continues to thrive around the world due to your generosity. These are Giclée prints on fine-art archival papers.  The photographs are offered for $800.00.* Sales will raise funds in support of the free services at ANG*L.   Because this art work has been donated, the proceeds minus production costs will give an essential boost to ANG*L's operating funds for the 2010-11 fiscal year.

I have been interviewing and doing portraits of spiritual leaders in small communities, and my focus now is on such figures in the Spiritual Leaders Project. During conversation with my subjects, I work to find aspects of their biography that can be expressed visually with composition, pose, and how they engage the viewer.
