We depend on member support

In 2007, donor support enabled us to:
  • Offer an “Art of Gratefulness” day-long workshop in April which was so well-received that we expanded the concept into a weekend retreat.  We also held a “Grief and Gratefulness” workshop, co-sponsored by Hospicare, and are planning a “Poetry of Gratefulness” benefit reading featuring Jane Hirshfield, Coleman Barks, Simon Ortiz, Drew Dellinger, Roger Housden, and Annette Cantor.  Keep in touch with 21,000 subscribers to our newsletter, up from 16,000 in 2006.
  • Post on YouTube two video meditations by Br. David, accompanied by exquisite photos to visually enhance his message.  People tell us that they use these tools to become centered, calm, and attentive to the rich surprises in everyday life.
  • Move towards Spring 2008 publication through Crossroad Press of an anthology Br. David’s essays, Common Sense Spirituality.
  • Develop an online directory to local gratefulness practice groups.  Through a forum layout, people can describe efforts in their own community and find other kindred spirits with whom to meet, meditate, discuss articles, and plan and implement service projects that put gratefulness into action.  This directory, along with our new Community resources page, helps visitors connect with kindred spirits on our website and throughout the world.
  • Create an online, interactive Labyrinth Pilgrimage which allows visitors to trace a path through quotes from an array of religious traditions and associated photos of universal appeal.  This experience is carefully scripted to bring people fresh peace and perspective on problems facing them.  Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive:  “What an excellent presentation you’ve made of the labyrinth!  I’ve visited other labyrinth sites, but none as imaginative and satisfying as yours.  Please keep up the good work you are doing with this site!”
  • Keep our older, signature features are likewise thriving.  To give one example, this year we passed the four-million mark of candles lit in our “Light a Candle” feature, doubling the two million we had at this time in 2006.  About every 15 seconds, according to our calculations, someone somewhere in the world lights a candle on our site.  Of course it is not primarily the quantity, but rather the quality of messages left that leads people to tell us time and again how much peace they find here.
  • Accommodate as many as 60,000 hits to our website daily, more than a 200 percent increase over our high of 28,000 in 2006.
  • Offer a continual stream of poetry, Gratefulnews updates, Gift-People essays, Question-and-Answer Box answers, and new and seasonal ecard selections. Even when there’s no holiday to celebrate, visitors send an average of 850 ecards each week.
